New Orleans has a vibrant Jewish community!
Our community features an Eruv, nine synagogues, two Jewish Community Centers, a Jewish Day School, and a mikveh. A kosher deli and market, an upscale Kosher Moroccan restaurant, and New Orleans favorite Café Du Monde – now under Rabbi Uri’s supervision, are also great gathering places.
In addition to the services provided by our local Jewish Family Services, our congregation has an active Chessed Committee committed to caring for our elderly, our sick, our new mothers, our bereaved members, as well as for welcoming visitors and newcomers. Additionally, one of our members has established a Medical Equipment GeMaCH to offer free-loan medical equipment to those in need. Another member has also created a weekly Women’s Tehillim Group.
Please note that, since the loss of our synagogue building in Katrina, daily minyanim have been held at Chabad. Weekday Shacharit is at 7AM at the uptown Chabad House (8AM on Sundays) and Mincha/Maariv is approximately 15 minutes before sunset at the Metairie Chabad Center, 4141 West Esplanade Ave. Additionally, information for the Chabad mikvah is available here. There is a separate men’s mikvah as well.
