In the years following Hurricane Katrina, our community has gathered at the old synagogue to memorialize and pray on the anniversary of the storm. At the commemoration in 2009, the letters above the main entry doors were removed for safe keeping. Translated from the Hebrew, they read, “Build for me a Sanctuary and I will dwell amongst you.”
